(bilateral).
Since the lip and nose form together, there are typically abnomalities
of the nostril rim and tip of the nose.
The goal
of cleft lip surgery is to close the hole caused by the cleft
and simultaneously recreate the natural "cupid's bow"
shape of the lip line. A second goal is to at least partially
correct the abnormally positioned nostril rim. Dr. Fata uses
the "rotation-advancement" technique to repair cleft
lips, which allows the scar to be hidden along the natural vertical
ridges of the lip. The following patient examples demonstrate
the results that can be achieved with these techniques on both
the lip and the nose, although individual results may vary.
